Yana Kudryavtseva of Russia has become nearly unbeatable since joining the senior rhythmic gymnastics ranks in 2013. 15 years old in 2013, she was the youngest rhythmic gymnast ever to win a world championships all-around title. In 2014, she became the youngest ever to win two consecutive world titles, and in 2015 the 17-year-old became the youngest ever to win three world titles. Over her three world championship appearances she’s won 16 medals, 13 of which are gold. The only gold she didn’t win at 2015 worlds was in hoops, which she choose not to compete in the qualification round due to a leg injury. If she’s back to full strength by Rio, Kudryavtseva is expected to prove herself to be more than a worthy heir to Russia’s last Olympic champion, Yevgeniya Kanayeva, who retired after London. Kudryavtseva has three skills named after her in the Code of Points, most famously a move where she spins the ball on the tip of her finger while doing a front walkover. She was a finalist for 2014 SportAccord Sportswoman of the Year award.
