Ligety is the only U.S. man with two Olympic Alpine skiing gold medals. He had his breakout moment as a 21-year-old at the 2006 Olympics, when he became the first U.S. Alpine ski racer to win gold in combined. Then at the 2014 Olympics, he became the first Olympic giant slalom champion from the United States. He describes the giant slalom as “my event,” and is even nicknamed “Mr. GS.”

Getting to know Ted Ligety


Ligety was nicknamed “Ted Shred” by a ski coach in Park City when he was about 10 years old.


He is the co-founder of Shred, a ski apparel company. He now sponsors many of his rivals.


The Utah native is a big fan of the Utah Jazz.
