Biography

While growing up in a small Norwegian town, Oystein Braaten would frequently ride setups in his backyard alongside his older brother. Although his brother was a snowboarder (and eventually turned pro), Oystein opted for skis.

After winning a silver medal at the junior world championships in 2012, Braaten learned his first triple cork a year later when he was just 18 years old. A few months later, he competed in the first-ever Olympic freeski slopestyle contest, in which he reached the final and placed 10th.

Braaten continued to rise through the ranks after Sochi and has become one of the world's top freeskiers. He enters the 2018 Olympic season coming off back-to-back AFP slopestyle titles in 2016 and 2017, and he won slopestyle gold medals at both X Games events held in 2017.
