Louis Smith is one of Great Britain’s highest profile athletes, with three Olympic medals and a winning run on the competitive reality show Strictly Come Dancing. He won a bronze on pommel horse at his first Olympics in 2008, and came agonizingly close to winning gold on the same event at the 2012 London Olympics. He tied for the top score with Hungary’s Krisztián Berki, but had to settle for a silver medal because his execution score was one-tenth of a point lower than Berki’s. Smith’s third Olympic medal was a team bronze won by the British men in front of a home crowd. It was the first team Olympic medal to be won by British gymnasts in 100 years.

He took a break from training after the 2012 Olympics, but returned to the gym in early 2014 with the goal of qualifying for the Commonwealth Games. He succeeded, earning a team gold and pommel horse bronze. A year later, at the 2015 European Championships, he proved he’s still a world-class pommel horse worker by taking gold on his favorite apparatus. He also won pommel horse silver at the 2016 British Championships. Smith has reportedly started training parallel bars in order to make him a more versatile potential member of the 2016 Olympic team.
