Poland’s Kamil Stoch was on skis by the time he was 3 years old and began ski jumping at age 9. He made his World Cup debut at age 16 in his hometown in 2004, and by 2006, competed at his first Olympic Games in Torino, Italy. He finished 16th and 26th in his individual events and placed fifth in the team event. At the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, he finished 27th on the normal hill, 14th on the large hill and sixth in the team event. He took a team bronze at the 2013 World Championship, but more notably, his first individual gold on the large hill. In Sochi, he swept both individual events, winning gold on the large hill and normal hill (even though he later said he was having health issues earlier that morning). In the team event, he and his Polish teammates finished just outside the podium in fourth. At the 2015 and 2017 Worlds, he won a team bronze and a team gold, respectively, despite what he calls chronic knee problems.
