Kaetlyn Osmond said in a Canadian interview before the Sochi Olympics, “I never had my eyes set on 2014 – I was always aiming for 2018.” But after taking the national title at the 2013 and 2014 Canadian Championships, Osmond was named to the Olympic team for Sochi. She competed with the Canadian figure skaters in the team competition, earning a silver medal, and placed 13th in the ladies’ event. Injuries prevented her from competing in the post-Olympic season, and after uneven results early in her return Osmond found breakout success in 2016. She won silvers at her two Grand Prix competitions and became the first Canadian woman since Joannie Rochette in 2009 to qualify for the Grand Prix Final. Osmond finished just off the podium in fourth place at the prestigious event. In early 2017, Osmond also claimed her third national title. She continued her season at the Four Continents Championships, where she finished just off the podium in fourth. At the 2017 World Championships, she earned a silver medal; it was the first time two Canadian women have been on a Worlds podium, as countrywoman Gabrielle Daleman won the bronze.

For the Olympic season, Osmond was sent to two Grand Prix events in Canada and France, where she landed on the podium both times. She earned a bronze medal at the Grand Prix Final, and then a silver medal at the Canadian nationals.
