Jan Schmid represented Switzerland, the country of his parents, in his two first two Olympic appearances in 2002 and 2006. He and his Swiss teammates finished seventh and then fourth at those Games. He was born and raised in Norway, so changed to represent that country later in 2006. He competed for Norway at the 2010 Olympics, where he finished fifth with the team and 23rd individually. He was not selected to be on Norway’s team at the 2014 Olympics, and says he’s taking a year-by-year approach to his career. He finished 31st in both the normal and large hill events at the 2015 World Championships but did not compete in the 2017 edition, despite racing in several World Cup events.
