At age 14, Jackie Galloway became the youngest athlete to ever make it onto Mexico’s national taekwondo team. Two years later, she nearly made it to the 2012 Olympics in London but ended up as an alternate. After the conclusion of the games, Galloway – a dual-citizen of Mexico and the United States – returned to her home state of Texas and set her sights on qualifying for the Rio Games as a member of Team USA. A stellar 2015 season earned Galloway an automatic spot in the Rio Olympics thanks to a top-six finish in the heavyweight (67+kg/148+ lbs) class in the final year-end World Taekwondo Federation rankings.
