Hamlin won a historic bronze medal in women’s luge at the 2014 Games. It was the first Olympic medal for any U.S. athlete in singles luge, 50 years after the sport made its Olympic debut. Her hometown honored her with a parade, and she said that she hoped her success would inspire future generations of U.S. female lugers. She also won three medals at the 2017 World Championships, the most by a U.S. athlete at Worlds in a single year.
