Individually, he placed sixth on the normal hill and 45th on the large hill. After suffering a bad crash and missing most of the 2014-15 season, Wellinger dropped to 11th on the normal hill at Worlds in 2015. He markedly improved in time for the 2017 World Championships, crediting his improvement to finishing school and being able to concentrate on sport full time. He won a team event gold medal, and two silvers on the normal and large hills.
