Evans was a track and field athlete at the University of Illinois, where she broke the indoor and outdoor shot put school records. When she failed to make the 2008 U.S. Olympic track and field team, a coach suggested she try bobsled. She went on to win a bronze medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics for the United States as a brakeman with pilot Jamie Greubel Poser. She attempted to qualify for the Rio Olympics in heptathlon, but injured her knee and decided to return to bobsled.

Evans threw the ceremonial first pitch on Opening Day for the Chicago White Sox in 2014. She asked her uncle, former MLB outfielder Gary Matthews, for advice.


She shed her clothes for ESPN the Magazine’s annual Body Issue.


Her father, Fred, was the first African-American swimmer to win a collegiate national title.
